I’m Chris. To tell you a little about me, I’m a Dad, husband, a Registered Nurse, a Nurse Practitioner Student, and a home cook for myself and my family. I’ve been cooking for most of my life, starting with making pancakes for my family when I was around seven years old. After college, I volunteered for AmeriCorps VISTA, and in order to stretch my budget, I had to cook virtually all of my meals at home. I became a better cook that year not only because of financial necessity but purely for the enjoyment of making food.

I’ve also worked as a hydrologic technician for the U.S. Geological Survey, lived in 5 different states (and territories). I met my wife while I was working in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We moved together from the Island and landed in east Tennessee where I went back to school for nursing.

As a registered nurse, I started working in ICU right at the beginning of the pandemic. Seeing what Covid did to people firsthand changed me. Although Covid is indiscriminate and affects different people in different ways, the majority of my patients would have some underlying condition like diabetes, hypertension, or obesity. From that experience, I wanted to better help people from getting sick in the first place. I’m now in school to be a Family Nurse Practitioner and I’d like to work in a primary care clinic. As a health care provider, I firmly believe and have seen it firsthand, that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The only way to control what goes into your body is to cook your food yourself, and I’d like to help you do that with recipes inspired by the best home cooks out there, moms (and dads!).
